Basic experiments are the cornerstone of scientific research. The precision, stability, and traceability of each step in the experimental process determine the success or failure of the entire research project. In recent years, under Li Haitao, Dean of Tsinghua University School of Basic Medical Sciences, the research team has achieved remarkable success in epigenetics using engineered mice as model animals. The young Tsinghua School of Basic Medical Sciences, guided by the principles of "Strong Foundation, Internationalization, and Emphasis on Clinical Applications" has embarked on a new era of ambitious original research. By establishing an AI-powered digital laboratory platform, they are spearheading the digital transformation of foundational experimental techniques and advanced laboratory management. Tsinghua, a century-old institution, continues to lead the way at the forefront of the times! Seizing this momentum, COEVOS' "talking pipetting system" intelligent digital pipetting system is actively assisting Tsinghua's team in achieving more precise experimental results and more efficient experimental processes.
“We are conducting extensive mouse genotyping experiments, which demand exceptional patience, energy, and endurance from our team. Each member handles dozens to hundreds of mouse tail DNA extractions and sets up multiple 96-well plate PCR reaction systems. Previously, our team endured intense experimental sessions lasting 2.5 to 3 hours straight, often resulting in errors that jeopardized the entire experiment and necessitated redoing. This persistent challenge was mitigated when we adopted COEVOS' intelligent digital pipetting system. Over three months of continuous use, we significantly reduced the overall genotyping time by nearly half, cut the error rate in half, and streamlined the experimental process, making it more efficient and less demanding.”
Peking University Health Science Center
Welcome to the new era of the protein crystallization experiments at the state key laboratory of Peking University Health Science Center! Let's witness the seamless fusion of technology and efficiency and see firsthand how COEVOS' intelligent digital pipetting system excels in protein crystallization experiments. Are you ready? Let's dive in!
Protein crystallization experiments are like mixing a complex cocktail, where precise control of each ingredient is crucial. This process combines scientific methods with artistic creativity. From preparing pool solutions of different concentration gradients to micro-liquid handling, protein spot sampling, and covering the pools with solutions, these operations can be dizzying. But fret not! With COEVOS' intelligent digital pipetting system, protein crystallization experiments become a breeze.
Throughout the protein crystallization process, the pipettor is primarily used to supplement protein samples during initial screening and subsequently manually optimize the crystallization conditions by diluting gradients and adding samples. The challenge for researchers lies not only in handling numerous samples but also in using manual pipettors to add 1-2 µl of protein into 96/48/24-well plates and covering them with corresponding pool solutions to prevent evaporation during cultivation. Additionally, single-channel pipettors are used to add different condition pool solutions into pool wells. When using traditional pipettors, researchers often find themselves questioning life choices due to the repetitive, tedious, and error-prone process of manually adding tiny samples and pool solutions. It's not just about sore hands but also worrying about sample evaporation—a real headache that strains the eyes!
COEVOS' intelligent digital pipetting system is like the superhero of the laboratory. Its single-channel intelligent “equal-volume dispensing” feature excels in protein spotting and pool solution covering on crystallization plates during liquid addition and initial screening of crystallization conditions. Moreover, single/multi-channel pipettors efficiently explore pH gradients, salt ion concentration gradients, PEG concentration gradients, and more during manual optimization of pool conditions, earning well-deserved applause.

Zhejiang University
High-throughput liquid handling experiments, which demand precision and efficiency, are fundamental to the daily work of Professor F's research team at the College of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science at Zhejiang University (shortened as the College of Bioengineering and Food Science). Achieving both accuracy and efficiency with minimal errors has always been Professor F’s higher standard for scientific experiments. Driven by relentless pursuit of scientific exploration and a spirit of reaching new heights, every team member treats even the most basic liquid handling steps with great meticulousness, leading to continuous progress. However, traditional pipetting methods come with numerous limitations, making it difficult for researchers to be both "efficient and accurate." For example, the basic operation scenario in a poultry molecular detection experiment:
1.Each experiment requires adding more than five special sample reagents (volatile) into a custom 12-well plate.
2.Different reagents have different volumes (e.g., 3μL, 4μL, 5μL, 0.5μL, 0.7μL).
3.Each experiment requires processing a large number of 12-well plates, sometimes exceeding one hundred. Each experiment takes 3-4 days. Such high-intensity, time-consuming unequal micro-liquid experiments inevitably push experimenters to the brink of "inability to concentrate fully and mental breakdown."
Challenges Faced by Professor F's Team Before Using the COEVOS Intelligent Pipetting System
1.Despite being fully equipped with traditional pipettes from a well-known imported brand, repeated volume adjustment was still required (each adjustment took 8 seconds).
2.Single-channel pipetting required at least 2800 repetitions.
3.Due to the special nature of the reagents, differences in experimenters’ physical strength and prolonged operations easily led to splashing into other wells, causing cross-contamination and resulting in the entire plate and reagents being discarded (roughly estimated to have a 15% cross-contamination rate).
4.Due to the volatility of special reagents, it was necessary to repeatedly open the cap at least 1400 times during each experiment to aspirate the solution.
Just the above-mentioned points made the entire experimental process distressing for the operators. Such work also quickly exhausted researchers' rigor and enthusiasm, harming the sustainability and creativity of scientific research.
Unlocking Research Challenges with the COEVOS Digital Key At the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, the team learned that Coevos launched a “talking pipette— the COEVOS Intelligent Digital Pipetting System.” They decided to try it out and immediately found this product to be the “magic tool” they needed for liquid handling. After trial verification, they decisively purchased and equipped it for daily experiments. Let’s hear the “user experiences”:
1.Volume adjustment significantly accelerated: With the intelligent equal volume dispensing function, presetting the needed volume allowed for over four samples to be pipetted with one aspiration, and each volume adjustment took a maximum of 5 seconds (efficiency increased by 38%).
2.Liquid transfer speed increased fourfold: The multi-channel pipette adopted a 4-channel dispensing method, reducing the previous 2800 aspirations to 700 (efficiency increased fourfold).
3.Error rate dropped from 15% to nearly 0: By adjusting the dispensing speed to the X setting, splashing and cross-contamination were eliminated (previously 15%).
4.The number of sample tube openings reduced fourfold, from 1400 times to over 300 times, saving time and greatly reducing reagent evaporation loss.
User Feedback: Students said: "Thanks to the assistance of Coevos’ Intelligent Pipetting System, our experimental process, which previously took 3-4 days, has been quickly shortened to 1-1.5 days." Professor F, the team leader, commented: "It’s surprising that our domestic product now brings us such delightful experiences and real benefits in cost reduction and efficiency improvement. Our team members have greatly increased their interest in scientific experiments, and their enthusiasm for exploring and innovating despite difficulties is rising. Furthermore, all experimental data can be traced, improving the reproducibility of valuable experiments. The team’s atmosphere has become more rigorous yet lively!"
